At the end of September, our family participated in America Diabetes Association Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk! It was a great time to get together as a family and join with others that are affected by this disease. All together we had 12 people in our family participate. We met early on a Saturday morning at This is the Place State Park and went on a beautiful two and a half mile walk that ended at The Hogle Zoo.
I have had diabetes now for almost eight years. It is crazy that it has been that long and I can honestly say that I almost don't remember what life was like without it. It is an everyday battle. Some days I want to ignore the fact that I have diabetes and think that I am too busy to take care of myself. No matter how much I try, it won't go away. It will always be there when I wake up the next morning and it goes to bed with me at night.
With all that said, I feel lucky to have the support that I do. An amazing husband who cares for me and is concerned about how I am feeling physically and emotionally everyday! A team of doctors that is encouraging and helpful in managing the details of this disease. A family who is accepting of me as who I am and helps me keep laughing and smiling about life. I also have a beautiful baby boy who is an inspiration to me to stay healthy and take care of myself so that I can be the best mommy for him!
Thank you to everyone who came and supported me at the diabetes walk! It really meant a lot to me! It was a great morning full of family, fun, food and don't forget the exercise! Some of you are already looking forward to the "slogans" for a a team shirt next year! We are looking forward to inviting and including more family and friends next year!
