Diabetes Walk 2008

At the end of September, our family participated in America Diabetes Association Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk! It was a great time to get together as a family and join with others that are affected by this disease. All together we had 12 people in our family participate. We met early on a Saturday morning at This is the Place State Park and went on a beautiful two and a half mile walk that ended at The Hogle Zoo.

I have had diabetes now for almost eight years. It is crazy that it has been that long and I can honestly say that I almost don't remember what life was like without it. It is an everyday battle. Some days I want to ignore the fact that I have diabetes and think that I am too busy to take care of myself. No matter how much I try, it won't go away. It will always be there when I wake up the next morning and it goes to bed with me at night.

With all that said, I feel lucky to have the support that I do. An amazing husband who cares for me and is concerned about how I am feeling physically and emotionally everyday! A team of doctors that is encouraging and helpful in managing the details of this disease. A family who is accepting of me as who I am and helps me keep laughing and smiling about life. I also have a beautiful baby boy who is an inspiration to me to stay healthy and take care of myself so that I can be the best mommy for him!

Thank you to everyone who came and supported me at the diabetes walk! It really meant a lot to me! It was a great morning full of family, fun, food and don't forget the exercise! Some of you are already looking forward to the "slogans" for a a team shirt next year! We are looking forward to inviting and including more family and friends next year!

tag....i'm it!

Well, I can't believe I am doing this, but thought it would be fun. I have been "tagged" and I am finally going to "play" along and not "run" the other way! I hope to "catch" some of you and hope you'll join the fun too!

I have had some comments about our blog being "only about Garrett" and it bothering some that it doesn't have more about "us". I figure that Garrett is what our lives are mostly about right now and we enjoy sharing the love we have for him with all of you! I have to admit that it would be nice to know what is going on in our lives too. For all of you recent bloggers, WE (Colin and I) have had a blog since 2005!!! It was all Colin's doing with him being into computers and all and I thought he was silly to have one! But since practically the day we found out that we were pregnant, Colin started this one about our precious baby boy. Now that I am the main author of this one (hint, hint honey!) I am thinking I will still update this one until Garrett is a little bit older and then we'll start using our family blog more. There is no use in having two blogs...right? I can hardly keep up with this one! Now Colin thinks I am the silly one because I could look at blogs all day! :) So, if you want to know what we did in 2005 and 2006....look at our posts here!

Anyway, here is a peek into the life of GARRETT'S MOM!!!! Thanks Linds for the tag and I apologize to all of you for not doing other tags in the past. I love reading them on other people's blogs and getting to know all of you better....

8 months!

Garrett is now eight months old! He sure is growing and his personality is coming out more and more each day. He loves to play with his toys and has fun throwing them when he is "done" with them. He also has definitely found his vocal chords and loves to scream when mom leaves the room! He mostly is fine if he is having fun with his toys, but as soon as he is bored, he lets us know. Garrett likes to imitate his dad too in his squeals and "fake coughs". It is hilarious to watch. He is liking baby food more and more and has added chicken and vegetables to his favorites list! Garrett also tried some cheerios and loved them. He's his mommy's boy ( I love cheerios too)!! Baby food sure gets messy, but it is fun to watch him get excited to eat. I had to put this picture in to show the cute rolls on his legs! He is getting two more teeth on the bottom (4 total) and one more on the top (3 total). It seems like it is making him a little more cranky than usual, but he sure is adorable and we just love him so much! He brings a smile to our face everyday!
