So, a while back I made a deal with Trish that she couldn't buy baby stuff until she cleaned out the baby's room so that we would have somewhere clean to put it all. She has been pretty strong about not buying anything (or making much progress in the room). But I never made a deal like that for me!
This past weekend we found ourselves up in Park City with the Anderson family for one last outing before Trish's brother leaves on his mission to Guatemala. Between naps and snacking, watching TV and playing games, we found some time to visit Park City's famous Tanger Outlet Mall. I was brave enough to go with Trish into Carter's baby clothes store and told her that we could make a small exception to our little agreement.
And that's when I saw the 70% off rack. Let's just say, things got a little crazy and it wasn't even Trish this time. "It's not how much you spend, it's how much you save," Trish always tells me after she buys something. Well, I couldn't pass up on all the good deals that we found on this occassion.
If you know anything about our past year (see http://colinandtrish.blogspot.com) you'd know how much we have loved our little pup Maggie. We hope that our kid likes dogs too because I got him a few (few=lots) outfits with puppies on them. Pajamas with a little doggie. A little cap to wear home from the hospital with a dog on it. A blue shirt with a puppy and a football. Burp clothes and bibs, you name it, we got a little of everything (don't forget, it was on sale )!
I'm not sure that there have been very many moments like that when I was so excited to spend money. Trish couldn't stop laughing at my craziness and she took advantage of my weak moment and added a few things to the pile. There's just something about a father wanting his first new little son to look sharp in his outfits... and basically I lost all self-control for about 45 minutes.
About 20 items and $--- later (total cost has been edited to protect the guilty.... me) we left the store and couldn't wait to see our son in his new wardrobe. I can't believe it is still 5 months away!
Moments like these don't come around very often, and I have to say that it was fun to indulge a little bit and just ride the excitement. I can already tell that having a son is changing our lives, in many different ways. Now, where can I put all this stuff??

I can hardly wait to see that cute boy in all of his new clothes! Way to go Colin! Sucker! :)
I'll tell you, you buy all these cute clothes, then when they're 3 and older they decide they don't need your help getting dressed and walk out of the house looking like a homeless. But you have to pick your battles and clothes is not a winning one. Zander currently wears all black (or black and navy blue) because he wants to look like a spy. It's a losing battle for me.
But buying the clothes is sure fun, especially when you know you can make them wear them!
Have fun!
Rachel =)
