Just another quick update (because American Idol is on commercial... j/k), but we are moving along slowly but surely. As it turns out, the dialation and baby position haven't been progressing very quickly. So it has made for fairly slow and uneventful afternoon. In fact, our Doctor has said that the baby won't come today.... so that is the bad news. Trish was a bit disappointed to hear that, especially after being mentally prepared to have the lil' guy today. If you're really a diehard and want to check the blog between about midnight and 5 am, we might have good news. ;)
Filling in a few holes over the past 24 hours and recaping the past day:
Monday, Jan. 14th
9:00 pm Checked in to the hospital
11:00 pm Started the cervix ripening process
Tuesday, Jan 15th
12:00 am Nurses came in to check blood sugar and vitals
1:00 am Nurses came in again
2:00 am Nurses and Resident Doctor visited as contractions began to increase frequency and intensity
3:00 am More nurses
...
...
(several bathroom breaks that involved unplugging monitors and carrying the I.V. drip bag into the bathroom, and more nurse visits). It made for a long night of short rests and not a lot of sleep, especially for poor Trish. She's such a trooper!
8:00 am Our Doctor arrived and talked about the plan for the day. Contractions continuted to increase, slowly, and were as frequent as every 3-5 minutes. Dilation up to only about 2 cm.
...
11:00 am Anesthesiologist administered Epidural
...
1:00 pm Trish looked more relaxed than she has been in a long time and was able to take a few naps.
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm Not a lot had changed, dilation only about 3 cm, a few naps, a movie, even a round of a card game.
5:30 pm Gave Trish a priesthood blessing to help her relax and not worry too much about her slow dilation.
And then the Doctor returned with the news that our baby is doing great, however contractions have actually slowed a little and dilation is still about 3 cm. So that is where we are right now. Trish has been on a little bit of oxygen here and there to make sure the baby is getting enough, but nothing serious. We could be in for a long night again. Midnight is going to be one of our main checkpoints, and we will likely have a baby by morning tomorrow.

Hang in there Trish! We've been thinking about you all day. Good luck and we can't wait to see your beautiful boy.
Trishy!!! You are my hero! Keep up the good work, and you will soon be able to hold that little one in your very own arms...how amazing! I know it can be hard when things don't turn out as planned (as you also well know) but you'll certainly have a sweet labor story to tell ;-) Just think about how patient you were to get to this point--a few more hours will be cake walk compared to that!
I love you! Keep up the awesome work...your little boy is coming SOOO soon!

Do you get this without the pep band
music in the background??
I've tried to blog several times and I keep pushing the wrong button. Dang it! I've loved your blog and the journaling you've done. Your baby, our grandson will know that he was loved so much even before he entered this world! You've done a great job in filling your loved ones in on the blessed event.
I've been recalling the days of my labors and the anticipation I had.
I think that I can even remember the pain and how hilarious your Dad was through out the labor. Needles,
epidurals, and other things did not set well with him. He even tried to faint a couple of times. I was the main attraction so they didn't even bother with him. He just left the room.
Colin you've stuck yourself right there, which is a blessing. You've been the activity chairman making sure that time is not wasted when you can play a good game. Dad thinks the baby is finishing a board game before he is born!
Trishy, my first born daughter, I love you to bits and know that you are being taken care of in all possible ways. You have Colin, your #1 cheerleader there and all the pep club (hospital staff and doctors) cheering you on. HHHEYYYY
